[REVIEW] Thai Vietjet/VZ130 : BANGKOK to CHIANGRAI

On this trip, I travelled to Chiang Rai in the middle of the year, the northernmost province of Thailand. Since it was a personal trip, I chose to fly low-cost and when I tried to compare ticket prices on popular flight comparison websites like https://skyscanner.net, I found that ticket prices were really cheap. Especially, the national airline of Vietnam, Thai Vietjet, had just opened flights within Thailand. Thai Vietjet operates from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), which was convenient for me to access, so I didn’t hesitate to book my ticket right away. 🙂

Herewith the details of my flight today;

I started my trip by arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport at around 5.15AM. At first, I thought it was just a weekday and the morning flight wouldn’t be too crowded, but I was wrong. Our Vietjet Air flight had a morning flight to Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Krabi all together, which caused a long line at the check-in counters. There were only about 8 check-in counters in the Row-K area, and unfortunately, I couldn’t check-in online because of some system problems. The system instructed me to contact the check-in counter, so I had to wait in line for over half an hour to get my boarding pass, even though I didn’t have any luggage to check-in.

After receiving my Boarding Pass, I hurried through security and headed straight to the gate. Today, I was boarding at Gate-B3, which had an aero bridge. I had some time, so I stopped to grab a cup of coffee and thought about taking it with me to enjoy on the plane. However, just as I arrived at the gate, boarding was about to begin. But, when my boarding pass was scanned, the staff informed me that all kinds of food and drinks were not allowed on board. I had to leave my coffee there and had only taken a few sips, which was a pity because it was expensive. T_T

The boarding was begun when I arrived the gate.

Today, I sat in the Emergency Exit row. I didn’t choose the seat beforehand. When I checked in, the staff asked, “Is it convenient for you to sit in the Emergency Exit row?” I replied, “Yes, it is,” because I wanted to stretch my legs. The staff probably thought that if there was an emergency, they could entrust their lives to this guy, so they gave me a seat in the Emergency Exit row. 🙂

After boarding, I took a moment to explore the atmosphere and my seat. The seats were arranged in the typical 3-3 configuration of a Single Aisle aircraft. I was chosen to sit in the emergency exit row, which allowed me to stretch my legs comfortably. It was great, especially for someone like me who is 183cm tall.

After the Boarding was complete, the plane Pushed back and Took off on time. Then, when the altitude was reached, I started to explore the restroom. It was very clean and had only liquid soap and tissue paper, nothing more than that in the Low-cost style.

Then, the flight attendant then began selling food and souvenirs, but as my flight was only one hour, I didn’t need anything. So, I spent the time alternating between reading a book and enjoying the view outside.

Soon, the plane began to descend and landed at Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai International Airport smoothly.

Overall, I think Thai Vietjet is a very interesting option for domestic flights in Thailand. The advantage is that the prices are not expensive, because they have to compete with large rivals like AirAsia or Lion Air. In addition, taking off from Suvarnabhumi Airport is convenient for people who live near to this area. As for the service, it’s typical of a low-cost carrier. If you want something more, you can buy it according to the rules. Lastly, I want to end this review with a symbol of Chiang Rai province, which is the “Wat Rong Khun” or the White Temple in panorama view.
