Poland – Day 1 : Warsaw Welcomes Me In

After I arrived Warsaw from Bangkok by Qatar Airways, I used S2 train from Warsaw Chopin Airport to city center and checked-in at Hostel Chillout, about 800 meter from Warsaw Central Station.

About 3.30PM, even I still had jet-lag, but it was not an issue. I started the first day as “warming-up day” to explore Warsaw city. The first place what I would visit on the first day is Palace of Culture and Science. It is the outstanding Soviet style building in the center of Warsaw. This building is one of the iconic and most symbolic landmark of this city. It is just about one kilometer from the hotel, walking distance from my hotel.

Palace of Culture and Science is a 273 meters notable high-rise building in central Warsaw. It is the tallest building in Poland. it’s a hub of culture, history, and entertainment that represents Warsaw’s eclectic spirit. This building is designed by Lev Vladimirovich Rudnev, the Soviet architect. The construction was completed in July 1955. The visitor can visit the observation deck on 30th floor to admire the bird’s eyes view of Warsaw. Palace of Culture and Science is open daily, 10AM – 8PM. The admission fee for observation deck is 28 PLN/person (8 USD). The peak hour is before sunset. It might have to wait the queue up to 30 minutes. But it is worth to visit. 😋

I spent my time at Palace of Culture and Science (including waiting time) until 4.30PM to see the city view after sunset. Then, I wanted to visit one more place before finding something for dinner and back to the hotel. After I checked my plan and Google Map, the nearest place from there was Church of The Holiest Savior. It is just about 1.70 km away. I could just walk straight on Marszałkowska street.

Church of the Holiest Saviour is a Roman Catholic parish church on Saviour Square, Warsaw. It was built from 1901-1911. The church was created as a thanksgiving to Christ the Savior for the Holy Year 1900. Church of the Holiest Savior is open daily, 6AM – 7.30PM with free entry.

I spent my time in the church for just about 15 minutes to admire the architecture. The sleepiness and hungriness had attacked me. So, I moved from Church of Holiest Savior to find easy dinner and ended up with KFC nearby there. Then, I decided to back to the hotel which is just 10 minutes walk. Before I reached the hotel, I stopped by Zapka, a local convenient store to grab some snack and easy meal for tomorrow breakfast.

My first day in Poland was ended up quite early, about 6.30PM only. Because I needed sometime to refresh and get sober from jet-lag as well as recharge the energy for next full day. Anyway, it was the good starting as I quite got familiar with the city since first day. I wish the next day would be the enjoy and memorable day. See you tomorrow. 😆
