Third in Taiwan, after I spent the second day for one day trip to Sun Moon Lake, I woke up about 8.30AM and checked out from the hotel at 9.30AM. Today, I would move to the one of the landmark in Taiwan where the antique and culture lover cannot miss, Jiufen.
This village is located on the hillside, northeastern of Taiwan, 50 km away from Taipei. The most convenient and direct way get this place from Taipei is to ride the direct Bus No.1062 from Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
I started my day by catching MRT – Bannan Line (Blue Line) from Ximen to Zhongxiao Fuxing which is only 4 stations away. Then, I used Exit 2 to Sogo Department Store (Fuxing Branch). The Bus Stop is just next to the exit gate. I just searched for Bus No. 1062 and boarded the bus by using Easy Card. The bus fare was 110 TWD/person (about 3.70 USD). Don’t forget to top-up the Easy Card in advance.If you are not sure, just ask the bus driver, Jiufen?. If he nods, it means you are boarding the right bus.

About 11.30AM, the bus was arrived Jiufen Old Street Bus Stop. I did not worry that I would ride pass this stop because a lot of passengers would disembark at this stop too. I just followed the freinds. As soon as I got off the bus, firstly, I walked to the hotel to check-in and deposit my belonging. I had booked a night stay in Jiufen at Box Inn Jiufen. It is the hostel at Jiufen Old Street where is very convenient as it is located in the center of tourist attarction area, only 250 meter from the bus stop.

At noon, after I checked and left my luggage at the hostel, it was the time to satisfy my stomach as I could see many of tasty and colorful foods, snack and dessert along with Jiufen Old Street. Indeed, Jiufen was a mountaintop former gold mining town in the early days. But, then became quiet after the decline of gold mining. In 1989, the movie “A City of Sadness” came to Juifen for shooting. The nostalgic scenery of Jiufen as seen in the film, as well as appearances in other media, charmed many people into visiting Jiufen and made this small town become popular. Nowadays, Jiufen narrow street has been fulfilled with hundreds of small stores, food stalls and tea houses what makes this town lively and charming. It attracts many tourists from Taipei everyday, especially the weekends.
Jiufen Old Street has 3 km length in total. This things what visitor “MUST” do in Jiufen are including;
- Trying local Taiwanese street foods

.
- Admire the sunset at Jiufen 🌞
(This is the reason why I decided to stay overnight in Jiufen rather than make it as a day trip from Taipei)

I spent the walking day at Jiufen for almost every alley and back to the hostel to relax the sunset scene and seashore of Jiufen from the rooftop. Then, after the sky got dark, about 7PM, I went out to Jiufen walking street again to touch the different atmosphere as this town is famous for the night scene as everywhere along the street is decored by red-lanterns. It made this place looked like the village in the fairy tales. 🏮🌟🌠🌙

About 8.30PM, I came back to the hostel to relax. As I visited Jiufen in December, the weather there was cold (20 ⁰C at daytime and 12⁰C at night), but it was very comfortable for walking. Today, it was one of my chill day as I had free and slow time to stroll around the antique town and immerse myself into the real Taiwanese lifestyle. Even I did solo-travelling trip to Taiwan, but I did not feel much lonely because Taiwan is lively and vibrant what made me feel exciting at everywhere I visited. I still had one more day left for by Taiwan trip. Tomorrow, I would back to Taipei in the morning to explore interesting places. Now, It was the time to relax and regain the energy for the next day discorvery. Good Night and Sweet Dream. 🛌💤
